Room Themes For Men

David asks…

What colors and themes go well with oak and dark green?

I am planning on moving into a pretty small apartment with my boyfriend and we're planning on using his bedroom set which includes a nightstand and two dressers. They are oak with a dark green finish on the top. I want our bedroom to still look open and light and somewhat feminine. Too many ideas out there for dark green would make the room a cave so I need some ideas to make it look like the perfect mix of man/woman without washing out the light and space. Any ideas?

admin answers:

The main thing you need to do is find bedding that lightens the dark green up. See if you like any of these:

I think I like the first one from Penney's best. It's not tooooo feminine but it will lighten up the space. If your boyfriend doesn't like what you choose, be sure to tell him that in order for you to be happy and relaxed in the bedroom, you need to decorate it and he does want you happy in the bedroom, doesn't he? Paul asks…

Ideas for a "moster mash" themed room for halloween festival?

My school is putting on halloween festival as a safe alternative for kids on halloween. We are going to be decorating rooms with themes such as a witches room, pirates room, moster's kitchen, ect. I will be decorating a "monster mash room" with inflatible, non scary monsters, like a pumpkin man, ect. Maybe with some haloween music playing in the backround like monster mash, lol. We might play a few games? But does anyone maybe have any ideas of what we can put in there that is not too scary for the little ones? as the other rooms will be much scarier. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

admin answers:

How about villains from childrens films just the not very scary ones!...
How about balloons with nice pumpkin faces on them!...
Cobwebby stuff around the windows not scary but looks more decorated...
& lots of sweets really...

Maria asks…

How could I decorate a room like the Nightmare Before Christmas during the holidays?

I'd like to go all out for my BEDROOM. Right now it's a pirate theme, but I'd love to dress it up like the Haunted Mansion Holiday (when Jack Skellington takes over). I'd like to know just some accesories and such I could use that would really spruce it up. Keep the price reasonable, but be creative!

To give you a start, this is what I did last year. Last year I had a man-eating wreath and a cob-web-covered Christmas tree. But I'd like to go all out so I'm open to suggestions!

My room is large with a small hallway that leads up to the main area. the walls are vertical for about 4 feet then are angled 45 degrees to about 35 degrees.

Alright! Have fun thinking up ideas, and thanks in advance!

admin answers:

I love the ideas that you said you used last year, first of all! Tell me how you made that sometime..

First, you can make homemade ornaments from the movie. Find pictures or movie stills from the Internet and place them onto a strong surface. Then, laminate them or keep them plain, hang them on a string, and then hang up!

Try ordering from the Disney catalogue, or look at the Disney stores. The Disney catalogue has many Nightmare Before Christmas items, all for great prices! They also have snow globes, wreaths, and more! The coolest stuff is there around Halloween or Christmastime.

Create some items based on characters in the movie! You can get some great fabrics and ideas at Joann's or Micheal's, or any other craft store. Photocopy or carefully draw the characters face onto the fabric. Make the fabric into the shape of a doll. Then add clothes and details, dew them up, and you have the whole cast of characters as dolls that you can hang under your Christmas tree, on a shelve, or on a wreath!

Make some fun masks. Masks are a cheap and easy way to celebrate. Get a copy of a characters picture, put it onto foam or construction paper, and VOILA, you have a mask of an awesome movie!

Make some holiday themed plates! Go to a local pottery-painting store (such as As You Wish) and pick out a plate. Then, piuck out the colors of a character from the movie and paint their face onto the plate! You can say something Christmas-y too!

Good luck, and tell me how it works out! I'm going to Disneyland this week, so I'll see if I can get some inspiration there. Good luck again and hope this has helped!

William asks…

Can someone please help me annotate this poem and pick out a theme?

Rite of Passage
BY SHARON OLDS
As the guests arrive at our son’s party
they gather in the living room
short men, men in first grade
with smooth jaws and chins.
Hands in pockets, they stand around
jostling, jockeying for place, small fights
breaking out and calming. One says to another
How old are you? —Six. —I’m seven. —So?
They eye each other, seeing themselves
tiny in the other’s pupils. They clear their
throats a lot, a room of small bankers,
they fold their arms and frown. I could beat you
up, a seven says to a six,
the midnight cake, round and heavy as a
turret behind them on the table. My son,
freckles like specks of nutmeg on his cheeks,
chest narrow as the balsa keel of a
model boat, long hands
cool and thin as the day they guided him
out of me, speaks up as a host
for the sake of the group.
We could easily kill a two-year-old,
he says in his clear voice. The other
men agree, they clear their throats
like Generals, they relax and get down to
playing war, celebrating my son’s life.

admin answers:

Critical Analysis of "Rites of Passage"

Why would any boy in the first grade claim that he has the ability and strength to kill a toddler? “We could easily kill a two-year-old,” (22) is what the birthday boy states in Sharon Olds’ “Rites of Passage”, a poem in which a young boy’s birthday party becomes the pruning ground for many of his peers. The boys are overly competitive and compelled to prove their manhood to one another through intimidation by way of physical threats. All the while, the mother of the birthday boy observes the behavior as “Rites of Passage” into the male dominated world of adulthood.

The mother of the birthday boy reveals the occurrences of her son’s party. She is a conscientious yet respectful parent, knowing when and when not to interfere as seen when she scrutinized the exchange between two party goers, “I could beat you/up, a seven says to a six,” (12-13), determining that it was nothing more than boys trying to prove that they are forces to be reckoned with, no longer toddlers they were yesteryear. Despite her maternal wisdom, she is sarcastic when describing the children at the party, comparing them to their adult counterparts. She alludes to this from early on in the poem, “short men, men in the first grade/with smooth jaws and chins”(3-4), highlighting the fact their faces are smooth yet contradicting it with the fact that they are men. Later on, she describes their behavior in terms of predominantly male professions. “They clear their/throats a lot, a room full of small bankers,/they fold their arms and frown.”(10-12) With this image, she immediately removes the reader from the setting of the party, to one of a stuffy room of a board meeting full of balding, middle aged men, and just as quickly as she reminds you that it is a young boy’s party in the next line by identifying to arguing boys with their age, “a seven says to a six”(13). This is also observed in the last lines of the poem, “they clear their throats/like Generals, they relax and get down to/playing war, celebrating my son's life”(24-26) where she attributes very aggressive male behavior to that of young boys.

Her sarcastic tone also is apparent in the images used to enhance the scene. Prior to the mention of generals, she likens the image of birthday cake to that of a turret, a common component of war machines, with this passage: “the dark cake, round and heavy as a/turret, behind them on the table.”(14-15) Yet, when she describes her son, there is a hint of admiration in her sarcasm: “chest narrow as a balsa keel of a/model boat.”(17-18) Like the light strong wood of the balsa tree, the boy’s stature is small yet his personality strong as he takes control of the group with the following excerpt: “speaks up as a host/for the sake of the group./We could easily kill a two-year-old,/he says in his clear voice.”(20-23) With his statement, he is able to end the squabbling among his guests.

Sharon Olds transforms a common, everyday occurrence of a boy’s birthday party into the passage from one life stage into another. Her use of sarcasm correlates the actions and mannerisms of boys to those of men. The imagery supplements this by comparing ordinary objects to those associated with men bringing to surface the impact our society and culture has on our children.

Carol asks…

Decorating ideas for my baby's room!?

Hello! Im 5 1/2 months pregnant and having a baby girl. And I love to decorate.... but im not Very creative.(at all). I went to a web site called Wakeupfrankie.com. It gave me so many ideas! But i would like to go to more web sites like that, and cant find any more smiler to it. I was going to put up a wallpaper muriel (of something) and up clouds on the roof. Any cool, creative, retro, and different web sites/ideas would be very help full to me.Thanks for your time and have a good Holiday!

admin answers:

Did you find out if it
was a boy or girl yet ?

If it is a boy it should have a blue theme or maybe Blues Clues,Thomas and friends theme and etc.

If its a girl it should have a pink theme or a Hello kitty,Princesses theme and etc.

Or maybe you should get something that would be right for a boy and girl like a Pooh Bear theme :]

Sorry if my ideas suck but I tried my best.
Good luck! :]

Paul asks…

Daughters sharing a room. Decorating ideas please?

What should we do about our daughters' room?
With our first daughter we had Looney toons as the theme so it wasn't too girly. The mobile and bedding for that got ruined though. For my daughter, who is now 2, we got her the spongebob room set. Its table and chairs, bed, and storage for her toys. Well, the reason we chose the Spongebob instead of a more girly character that she likes just as much like disney princess or dora is because we knew we were having another baby and were planning for just in-case it was a boy so their decor in their room that they will be sharing wouldn't look too bad. But, we just found out today that we are having another baby girl! I want to make the room more girly as my 2 year old girl is starting to become more into dress up, dolls, and girly things. Also, we were wanting to do a butterfly theme for the nursery part of their room for the new baby. So, what should we do about the Spongebob furniture? Its all blue and yellow. It seems more for a boy. Any suggestions or ideas for their room would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

admin answers:

Paint the furniture in colors to match the new color scheme.

Decorating baby's room please help!!!!!!!????????????????????

I am having a little girl soon and I don't know how I should decorate the nursery. Any ideas? I do not want to go overboard on price because we will be moving in a matter of months, and it will all go to waste. Maybe you could give me some ideas on how to decorate using items that can be taken to our new house when we move? Also we are having trouble organizing all of her stuff. Could you give me some cheap storage ideas (clothes, baby bath items, diapers, shoes, etc.)? Any tips on parenting a newborn will be appreciated as well. Thank you ahead of time!

admin answers:

If I could answer this in one word it would be research, but I can't. You need to do as much research as possible. Under source there is a list of websites that helped me. I hope they help you too.
Be creative. Use nice picture frames and frame some of your nieces and nephews art work(if you have any). Butterflies are always easy to find. Pink and green are really good together. Find a nice blanket and decorate around that. Use toys as decoration. Put a room size rug on the floor, or get a smaller one as an accent. The furniture can double as decoration. Sounds weird, but frame a blanket and use it as art work. It really will look good if you use a nice blanket. Take pictures of nature and frame them. Sorry about the jumping around, I just wrote what popped into my head. Lol
Now for storage... Use I am having the same problem. Sorry I can't help with that.
Parenting tips... I am due on june 12th so I can't help with that either.
Good luck!

Girls Room Painting Designs

Ruth asks…

ROOM DESIGN - girls please help.?

heyy i have just moved into a new house and im not allowed to put blutac on the walls or paint a feature wall. im gonna make something on a canvas and hang it but what else could i do?
what cool furniture pieces could i get like a cool cupboard or something interesting

admin answers:

If you're looking to get really creative, I can help.

It really does depend on your style, I have one for artistic and unique one for a beachy sort of feel and one for girly. (These are all for bedrooms but if you are doing other rooms you can interpret)

ARTISTIC AND UNIQUE
You can buy fabric mannequins basically every dress drop these days. Get a couple of those. Take your time painting them, with mime faces, crosses where the mouths should be, and statement pieces like that. Dress them if you want, preferably in black body suits looks best, but you can also get creative with this. Position them on small wooden posts you have painted black or white already in different places around the room so that it looks as if they are either posing or doing some activity you enjoy. Hang one with strings from the roof, too, this looks really interesting. Finish by taking a few black and white artistic shots of you and/or friends, and get them printed on to canvas, then hang them at interesting places.

GIRLY
This is a really great one for a room.
Have you ever seen those big butterflies/dragonflies that I think are done with tights being filled up and tied, and wire wings filled in with fabric? These look really great hung from the roof. If you know how to do paper mache, it is quite easy to make toadstools, after making and painting, position somewhere in your room. Buy a dressmakers fabric mannequin, and position to be sitting on top of the big toadstool. (preferably a childrens doll) This looks really great once you dress the doll, and even better if you fixedly place a teacup in her hands. Take a really bright, fun picture of yourself and/or friends and have it printed in full colour on to canvas, and hang it up. Finish by placing a few pretty ornaments, candles, lava lamps at different shelves and bedside tables and whatnot.

BEACH-SORT-OF THEME
This is quite difficult to do, but looks amazing, if not strange.
Get a dress maker children mannequin, and dress it in a small swimsuit, shorts, or any summery clothes. You can buy this at select interior design places (i found one in phillip island) or make your own out of paper mache if you have the patience: Waves. Whether 3D or in poster form, have some waves at the side of your room. Place the dress makers doll on an old boogie board (mini surf board) just in front of the waves. Move its arms as if its surfing. Have a sign (paper, on a wooden stick) saying 'surfs up' in lazy handwriting black marker. Get another dressmakers doll (just as an extra addition) and dress it in an old girls dress. Place it somewhere in the room, and put in its hand a paper mache or just toy bought ice-cream cone. Make the next out of cardboard. A 'thinking bubble' basic shape, cut out, and coming just above the head by some thrift store bought wire. In the bubble, write something like: Yum, or, Summer Days. Finish the room (if this is allowed!!) by buying a few fish at your local pet store (they sell near me for about $5) in different sized and shaped fish bowls (clear glass) with colorful rocks at the bottom.

EXTRA DESIGN!! JAPANESE- FOR ANIME TYPE LOVERS!!
You can buy from select stores (also found in fountain gate, and even at a store once in fountain gate, melbourne.) a light up cherry blossom tree of respectable size. (if you save up hopefully!!!) Make a few posters (on canvas) of cute phrases written in hiragana, or kanji. (maybe.) You can look this up. If you have the patience to do origami, it can be very lovely to hang a few origami medicine balls around your room. (google this if you're not sure what it means). Buy some cute stuffed toys (smiley faces, happy faces) to place on your bed, and finish by getting some cute anime pics printed on to canvas.

EXTRA EXTRA DESIGN: QUICK AND EASY TO DO 'NORMAL' ANTIQUE SORT OF ROOM.
If you collect a lot of old, quirky victorian type furniture and nicknacks, this looks really nice. Just hand some nice oil paintings around furniture, and add a small oval mirror with a nice gold or ebony frame. If you have the money and time, buy a large dress makers doll, and position towards the back of the room. You can dress it in gowns, either bought or hand made, and lace and whatnot if you are feeling creative. Finish with a party-shop-bought wig or bonnet, preferably a low bun if you are going with a wig. This looks really great.

Hope this helped, I want to be an interior designer someday, and sorry that they are so complicated and weird. :) Good luck decorating!

I need help designing a teen girls bedroom?

There are 2 girls that share a large room. Both girls are very creative and artsy. They love high fashion and music...I guess you could describe them as "alternative". There are really no guidlines except that they are painting the room a deep teal (&they will not be using purple or gold) But other wise I just need some help.

Thanks in advance!

Michael asks…

what design would be the best to have in a girls room?

okay well my two cousins are away for a trip and so me and my parents are designing/remodeling their room. One is eight years old and she is into princess and the other one is 15 years old and she is into what is now modern, like retro stuff. Alright so unfortunately they have to share room. They both agreed with the sky, baby blue background color on the walls and white on the ceiling and baseboards, doors, bathroom, and around the windows. Okay so then just a few hours ago her little cousin called me saying if we can add crown designs but then i hear her older sister screaming - so basically there is an argument. Alright so now i want to know what can i do to make them both pleased/satisfied? I was thinking of having diamonds going around the walls, and then at the bottom of the wall add some flowers but my older cousin doesn't really like flower things. So what kind of designs will go just perfect with them both?

P.S they are not into hearts, flowers, crown, princess, splatter paint.
i forgot to mention im not willing to do splits because its not going to look right.

admin answers:

I saw on a show the other day when they were redoing a house and had the same problem with 2 girls in the same room with different tastes and they did this:split the room, have the whole room one color or each wall a different color(my perspective i like the bright colors so i have each wall in my room a different color: orange, pink, blue, lime green) on one side put the crowns or a big crown and on the other side decorate it for the older girl i would say bright colors hope this helps

Carol asks…

What color should I paint my room based on this room design?

I'm redoing my room this week, and I was wondering what color I should paint it based on this conforter set thing http://store.delias.com/browse.do?categoryID=1979&shopnavTrack=roomwares.starstruck

My choices are between mint green, blue (same color as the blue on the comforter) or light purple. What do you think?

I don't want it pink or yellow because pink is really common for girls rooms and I don't like the color yellow (no offense to anyone who likes it!)

Please help
Easy 10 points!

admin answers:

Any of your color choices will look great with your bedding. Choose the one that looks the best with your furniture which will be against it and consider what you will be using as sheets. You will get 100 different answers to this as it is a personal preference.
Why not get some white poster board and paint one of each of the two colors you like the best. Then, live with it for a few days to help you make your decision. That way you will be able to see how each looks at different times of the day. Choose the one that looks the best at the time of day that you spend the most time in your room.
I personally like the lavender, like the plush rug shown or the square where it says "Rock your room out". If your furniture has a golden wood tone, consider the blue. White furniture will look fine with any of your choices.

Mary asks…

what are some good ideas for Decorating a baby boys room?

Yes I'm having a boy i am so HAPPY... but my husband is more happier than me and wants to start fixing up the baby room now so what are some good ideas?

admin answers:

Don't be too matchy-matchy for boys' rooms. Either do a neutral wall color and colorful bedding/ curtains... Or else vice versa. Sports are always a good theme because you don't have to buy a whole matching set - you can pick up random pieces that you like as far as bedding, lamps, curtains, throw rug, and wall decorations. If you're not into sports, then you can do cars, trucks, fire engines, airplanes, frogs and bugs, treehouse theme, etc.

Lisa asks…

Decorating ideas for baby room (neutral)?

Hi, I am looking for decorating ideas for a nursery that are gender neutral. I really like pale yellow, my husband thinks some kind of green. I've always loved "Classic Pooh" as one idea.

Ideas about colors, themes, etc are what I am looking for. Links to pictures would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

I have a space on my kitchen counter next to the stove with no electrical sockets. i have a makeshift entertainment center that i have all my games, movies,tv ext...all on this dinning room table.i have an empty space where a phone table should go,and nothing there, but it is high traffic.my bathroom only has a sink,no counter, and my bedroom has only a dresser with all of my makeup on top. this is just a renter, but im looking to decorate for the holidays and i have no space anywhere! well i have the space just not the shelving, tables, ext... what cheap creative ways can i put the christmas spirit in my home?

admin answers:

It's really hard to envision all this without pictures but how about hanging Christmas decorations? You can also get a small storage for your bathroom or kitchen and take some stuff off counters to decorate for various occasions. Most the stuff can be found at walmart, sears or even moving sales or second hand stores. All you'd need would be paint and you can decorate however you like after :)

David asks…

How to cope with doing Christmas myself?

My mother is being truly awful... I don't want to talk about it, but the point is, I have decided to spend Christmas in my bedroom. :( Um, I have a tree in there, with lights. I just put some of my ornaments on it last night. It wasn't many, but they were the only ones I own... I'm not allowed to use any of mom's ornaments. : Anyway, what should I do on Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning? I'm kind of scrambling here, because I didn't think I would have to do Christmas this way. I should have known, though. Mom ruined the last couple Christmas' for me, anyway. Like last Christmas morning, I lied in my bed crying until late in the afternoon.

Ah, anyway, I have a few ideas. I'm leaving my brother's presents from me out in the living room, since they'll be celebrating it with mom. I'm taking all the presents I bought my dog, and setting them under my Christmas tree, though. I also bought my best friend a few presents, so I'll put those under the tree, too. As for my presents, I don't care. If anyone got me anything, they can return it to the store...

So, I'm thinking I could invite my friend over on Christmas day, so we can exchange presents. She's free on Christmas, since her family opens presents on Christmas Eve night.

How do I bring my spirits up? Should I play some Christmas music? What Christmas movie should I play? For the last few years, I've been watching 'The Holiday', which isn't very Christmasy. It usually make me cry and feel even more lonely. I want something that can make me feel better, you know...

Should I decorate my room with other Christmas decor? Should I buy some tinsel or something? I could drape some Christmas lights over my mirror, maybe? I don't know... : I also have a stocking for myself, my dog, and my friend. I'm going to put some doggy treats and a chew toy in my dog's stocking! :) I have some nail polish, make up, tin of cookies, and some other chocolate I'm going to put into my friend's stocking. I don't know what I should put in my stocking, though... Or, if I should even put anything in there. :

What should I make myself (and possibly my friend) for Christmas dinner? I'm not much of a cook, so I don't really know what to make. I've already made some cookies, so I have that, but I want something nice for dinner... I also don't know what else my friend and I should do. We can't do anything in the snow, because her leg is broken. :( Should we play a few board games or something???

What should I do on Christmas Eve? Just, lay in bed, eat a bunch of chocolate, and watch a Christmas movie? Sounds depressing to me... :( Isn't there something fun I can do? I want it to be jolly.

Well, that's basically it. I would TRULY appreciate any help/advice you can give me. I want to turn a depressing Christmas into a happy one, so I need the advice. Thanks. :) By the way, spending Christmas with my mother is not an option. If she hates me, then why would I spend Christmas with her? Christmas is about spending time with your loved ones...

Paul asks…

Ladies: In general, does your husband like helping out with the home improvement projects around the house?

We bought a new home almost two years ago, and it's just as bare as it was the day we bought it. We have furniture for all of the rooms, but there are other things that I have been wanting to do such as: hang ceiling fans, install a garage door opener, hang curtains and valances, get our windows measured for wood blinds, install a screen door and a new front door, etc. The problem is I don't know how to do any of those things. My husband doesn't really know how either, but he's not interested in learning. I know how to use a power drill and hang pictures and other "no brainer" things, but I have a husband here, who's tall and healthy, and he won't even try.

I suggested we do things together. Since neither of us know what to do, I thought it would be a good idea for both of us to try and figure it out. On the rare occasion that I can get him to do something he wants to take control of it. After weeks of basically begging him he finally hung the curtain rods, but believe me when I say he didn't want to do it. A year or so after we were married I had to "convince" him to purchase a new living room set. He finally agreed. Earlier this year I was finally able to convince him that we needed a bedroom set. He finally agreed. I purchased a used dining table and china cabinet off Craigslist for a good price earlier this year, so that's the only reason he was in agreeance to that.

I understand he's a man and he's probably not interested in home decor like I am. That's my passion. But when I want to go find a picture, accessories for the house, furniture, etc. I have to do it alone. When I went to look for curtains I went by myself. There are times when I ask him to drive me somewhere to look at something for the house, and he refuses to go (because he doesn't like the fact that I walk around the store twice to make sure I'm not missing a deal). When he does agree to take me, which is rare because I try not to ask, he has an attitude. I can't even ask him to help me move anything around the house.

Yesterday, I asked him to help me move the china cabinet down a little bit. It's two pieces and I'm short and didn't want to turn the whole thing over. He was in the middle of playing a video game when I asked him. I didn't want to ask him to begin with but I had no choice. He acted like I was killing him. He told me I should have asked him when his friends were over (on New Year's Eve ... as if I was thinking about it then) so he could have help. There's only a few glasses in the china cabinet and we moved those, and I was willing to help him ... I just didn't want to move it by myself.

I just don't understand this. This is his house too, but it's almost like I have to beg him to do anything around here. I guess he figures because he's not interested in home decor and how things look, and since it's my thing, he shouldn't have to help. When I told him I was going to hire my cousin's handyman to help us out, he said, "I didn't think we had money for that" in a sarcastic tone. I've got to do something. I bought shelving for the pantry several months ago. After trying to get it up I asked him. He started talking about what I'd have to have to hang it, etc. ... when all the stuff we need is already at home. He just makes excuse after excuse when I ask him to do something of that nature ... and he always has something negative to say like, "That hanger isn't strong enough to hold that mirror" or "This isn't the right type of screw" when in reality it works just fine.

A little history - he is an only child and his mother has never been into decorating. His father is not a home improvements type of guy either. In their home it's just whatever ... as long as they can use it they don't care how it looks. That's fine with me and I can respect that. That's their home and I don't look down on them because they're not into decorating, but I am ...

I am sharp when it comes to computers and business stuff, but hardware, tools, and measurements just go right over my head. I'm horrible when it comes to math. But if I could learn how to do these things I would. I'm tired of begging him and as long as I sit and wait on him to become interested in what I'm doing (he'll never be that), I'll be sitting in the same place.

I have several relatives who know how to do flooring, ceiling fans, etc. and I asked one to come help me the other day. The first thing he said is, "Okay ... but what about your husband?" I'm so embarassed because my family will ask if we've got this up and that up, and I have to say no ... and they're all looking like "Doesn't she have a husband?"

What should I do?
Edit: I was able to find some people to paint the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom ... after asking him to help me paint. I've never painted before, but I was willing to try because it couldn't be THAT hard.
Edit 2: Yesterday, I decided to return the curtains I'd bought for my living and dining room. The panels were easy to hang, but I bought a scarf and couldn't get it to act right. Because I'm so short, and because the scarf is so long ... you really need two people to work with it. When I took it back to the store that's what the lady said ... exactly what she said ... it takes to people ... I just laughed. I don't have a second person.

Honestly, it sounds like he grew up a little spoiled and never had to do things around the house (take that one up with his parents! Lol) You're going to have to find a gentle, quiet way to instill a since of pride about his home in him. My husband was kind of the same when he was younger and I blamed it on the fact that we grew up differently. He got paid to mow the lawn or do things, I was just expected to do it. He was looking for a reward and my reward has always been the finished product. I think at some point he realized that I wasn't going to stop until things were done and now he's more into it.

I also learned to do things on my own and there was a little guilt when I was ripping a room apart to paint it while he was on the couch.....

That being said, there are still things that he wont do (or I wont allow him to do) painting is one of them (he's awful at it). I would never ask him to put curtains up (maybe the rod) and he would honestly rather take a bullet in the head than go shopping for "house stuff" with me.

Pick your battles. If he doesn't want to be part of the process (and many men don't) of picking out things for the house, do it yourself. When you need his help, tell him. If he claims he doesn't know how to do something (or you need help too) the internet is a great resource.

My husband is pretty helpful now and we talk about projects before we take them on. Sometimes, if he needs motivation, I'll mention that I'm getting an estimate on getting something done. He's either too cheap or prideful because the thought of another man in the house doing something that he COULD do.....kills him...lol

Good luck :)

Lizzie asks…

Would you dump your bf if you found out he liked wearing girls socks?

I like wearing girls socks, pink or purple usually. My gf doesnt know, no one does since no one sees them. I am in no way homosexual and i dont see them as a sex thing, i just like wearing cute looking girl socks. I know its weird, and i really dont want my gf to know because i dont know what she would think. She saw some of them in my room and thought i had another girl over... Should i come clean? So ladies, would you dump your bf over this?

admin answers:

Just tell her..I really don't find it weird..I enjoy wearing men's sweatshirts because they are more comfy..I also enjoy men's razors..If she dumps you over it then honestly she isn't worth it.. We all have our little weird things...And with the person we choose to love those little weird things are usually what we love most.

Joseph asks…

Would the wall colors pink, purple, and green be cute?

I'm a 12 year old girl. We moved to a new house and my room is bland. Its white all over and I am going to repaint my room. I was thinking 4 different colors for each wall. I like the colors green, pink, purple, and white. I was just wondering if those colors look good together and would it be cute? Also, if I were to paint my room those colors, what types/color of furniture would look best with it.

admin answers:

I think you should have the walls be striped in those colors :) it'd look cool.
And for furnishings and what not, you should go with a polka dotted theme.
Stripes&Polka dots :)
