Linda asks…

Child bedroom decorating ideas needed?

Hi there. Our 3 youngest children are going to share a huge bedroom. Ages 5, 3, and 2. The 2 oldest will be getting new beds, and the youngest a toddler bed. We need to paint and put in a new floor etc. I am wondering what colors, decorating ideas you all have for a boy/girl bedroom. Thanks! I am excited!

3 year old toddler bed?

Hi there. My 2 year old daughter's birthday is coming up soon, in April and currently she has a large cot in her own room which she sleeps in with no problem, but me and my husband think for her 3rd birthday, it's about time we got her her own big girl's bed! She is a very lively, girly little girl and we were thinking of this bed:

as it is a good size, low down and has high walls to help her feel secure. She has light pink walls and Laura Ashley furniture so we thought this would look adorable.
Do you think age 3 is a good idea to make the transition from a crib to a toddler bed, and is this a good one in your opinion?

Thankyou so much, Morgan.
Also, I forgot to mention that I am pregnant with my second daughter, and she could get my 3 year olds old crib once she has her toddler bed.

Instead of a toddler bed buy her a twin sized bed. You can get a canopy to hang from the ceiling to make it more girly for her.

Any suggestions for nap time sleeping arrangements?

I am a nanny and my 2 year old daughter comes to work with me 3 days a week. For those 3 days, she would nap in a crib in the home in the extra bedroom. She is officially a big girl and sleeping in her toddler bed and now I am wondering what I will do with her for nap time while we are at work. She climbed out of her crib which was why we made the transition. any ideas would be helpful...

My daughter has this foldable bed-couch for toddlers... It's as long as her toddler bed but very portable, lightweight and can be placed on the floor or the carpet. It's pure cushion and no iron railings so it's easily folded back and stuffed in the back of the car :o) she enjoys using it coz she likes to play tea party when it's a couch and play nap time when it's a bed. Hmmm besides Pooh I think Dora has it too...others call it sofa sleeper.

Trying to ready for baby...4 kids/3 bedroom house!?

We currently have a 3 bedroom home and have two boys in one room and a girl in a room by herself. However, I'm due in September with #4 and it's a boy too. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to do with the baby. We have a play room that I can "divide" with curtains, etc. and put somebody in there if need be. I thought in the beginning the baby would go in the boys room, but being that my youngest is 14 months old, the baby and toddler can't room together due to the simple fact that naps would be a nightmare!

Anyone out there experienced anything similar? Any advice? I also feel horrible for having children share a room. What are your ideas on that? I mean, that's how it used to be done, but everyone makes you feel so bad if each child isn't given the world in their hands.

admin answers:

Relax -- there's nothing wrong with having kids share a room. Children have shared bedrooms and even beds with their siblings for centuries. It'll teach them to have some consideration for their siblings and, if they go on to college, it'll make that transition easier because they're already used to sharing their bedroom with another person. Keep the baby separate until it's a little older, but then move him in with his brothers.
