Bedroom Decor Ideas On A Budget

Photobucket

Susan asks…

I need some New Bedroom Ideas?

I still have my entire High School years before I go to college, and my room is in need of a makeover. I have already decided what comforter I am buying...

URL for Picture:

And I need some ideas for making my room my own from this, because the entire room is going to be based off of this comforter. Here are the problems that I am having with this makeover...

1. I do not know what color for the walls (they are currently light blue and cream)
2. I need to find a way to make some money to purchase these items, because my parents said they will not help out too much with the makeover. (And no, I am not allowed to get a job yet)
3. I do not know what websites have interesting and one-of-a-kind home decor items at a reasonable price, and I am wanting my room to be one-of-a-kind (I already have some ideas on art I can make myself for the walls and such, but I will need more)
4. I also need a website where I can purchase bright, solid colored rugs for the floor, but where it isn't too expensive.

Overall, I just need some help on redoing my room creatively and not to expensively, and ways to earn money to pay for my room. I am really on a low budget...

Thanks!

Bedroom Decorating ideas?

I am moving into a new place for college and I can paint it or do whatever I want to decorate. I know I want to have zebra print bedding. I am thinking maybe paint the walls teal?? I have to buy all new furniture also, bed, desk, nightstand, dresser, etc. What color and style should I look for to go well with the zebra decor? Also I am on a college budget so if anyone has any cheap locations to purchase these things?

First off I would say use mydeco.com and use their 3D room planner to decide what colour you want the walls to be and where you want to put furniture and if you want any art on your walls too. Do this and experiment with colours so that you know exactly what you want and dont make the mistake of thinking a colour's nice but then it looks bad on the wall and costs you money to paint over it and stuff. So try that out and hopefully that will help.

Ideas for bedroom with black, white, and a little red theme?

I am redecorating my bedroom (my mother has given me a $1000 budget, but she said if I go a bit over it's okay). The room is pretty small, but the closet it really big, and I don't need the closet anyways, so I plan on taking the doors off of it and putting on some kind of sheer curtains and putting my bed in it, with lights and what not of course. The carpet is awful, so I want to change it. I want the color scheme to be black, white, and then a few little splashes of red (a red couch maybe, but if not then red pillows, decor, etc.) What should I change the carpet to? I don't want white, because I don't want to dirty it too much. Or should I put in wood floors? I think the brown wooden floors might look bad with the black in the room.

Thank you!
Also, if you have any other suggestions for decorating, or anything, please share them. Thanks again!

You could go with a "white color" wood floor and put some red and or black throw rugs around. Keep in mind though, would floors are expensive so you may want to look for a neutral color carpet.

Try Googling "Black and Red bedroom decorating Idea" and look at the images. The darker wood does not look all that bad.

Mark asks…

apartment decor?

We're waiting to hear back about an apartment we're trying to get. I'm pretty sure we aren't allowed to paint, so i'm trying to think ahead about decoration ideas. The floors are hardwood in the livingroom and the bedroom, which is off of the livingroom. Both of those rooms have very tall ceilings and windows.

when you walk in to the apartment there is a counter/divider about shoulder height and the small kitchen is on the other side. it's light blue.

all of the other walls are white.

any nice ideas for decor on a budget? color schemes to give each room it's own look even though the walls will all be the same? window treatments?

something to put on that divider? it's too narrow for normal counter space. probably about 6 inches wide.

links, pictures and details greatly appreciated.

It definately depends on your taste, your style and what your favorite colors are. For example, I like a clean and simple style. For white walls I would go with neutrals. Soft browns or taupes. Then I would add a bit of color. I like browns with soft blue, but that is just my taste.

Go to the store and pick a curtain that you really like and go from there. Or find a throw, pillow or picture that you really adore and decorate from that.

A word of caution with white walls...when walls are painted white, large pieces in the room that are brightly colored will reflect onto the walls, giving them a different cast. For example, a red sofa will make white walls appear softly pink. Keep this in mind when choosing your colors.

The same will happen with curtains, which is why I prefer neutral colors. Imagine full sun coming through a window with a curtain that is red, orange or lime green. Just be careful with those bold strong colors. If you want them in the room use them on smaller pieces. If you have a bold colored vase that you really love, it might get lost in a room with lots of bold color or patterns. If it is in a neutral room it will really stand out and become a focal point.

I hope this helped.
