Mandy asks…
shabby chic/bohemian home design inspiration?
so i am fixing up an old victorian home it has 4 bedrooms ,2.5 bath, foyer, dining, sitting room and of course a kitchen. We gutted the house and have done plumbing and electric etc. now we are nearing the cosmetic aspect of the home very exciting. I really like the colorful bohemian/ gypsy caravan home decor and that eclectic shabby chic look. I am looking for inspiration online but really cant find much. Everything seems so extreme and just not doable. Can you help me find pictures/ websites with this type of style that I can look at. Especially kitchen and dining room pictures because that seems most difficult to do. Suggestions, ideas are all welcome thanks :)

Why don't you try mydeco.com for inspiration, create a mood board, ask for inspiration in the forum or view other users room designs. You can then use the 3D room planner to create the look that you want, experiment with different colours and wallpapers and art, add furniture to the room, change or add light fixtures, change the colour of the floor and view the rooms form different angles.
I used the tool when I was decorating my room and it really helped me save a lot of time and money and it's really easy to use too.
Hope that helps.

14 year old girls bedroom?
Okay. I have done my room at my mom's house, but I need to do my room at dad's. I am getting my step-mom's bedrooom suite and am keeping my entertainment system. The rest is out the door.
The room is currently blue with white clouds, royal blue carpet and brown curtains that don't reach the windows bottom. There isn't blinds, but there is shades that pull up. I don't have any bedding and no design ideas. The furniture is a light brown wood tone and is good condition. straight lines. please don't say websites. i want inspiration ideas not links. thanks so much. i need paint color fabrics, theme, decor and everything else. LOVEDS

You could do a sea theme. Either under the sea, with the walls being like coming up to the surface (like in the Little Mermaid or the Spongebob Movie), or a beach theme. You could also do island getaway (Lilo and Stitch)if you're into those bold colors. Curtains can always be changed. You can get some inexpensive panels from Walmart/Target/Kmart. Try the dollar store for your accessories. They have a lot of those kind of things. I'm not really sure how much you can spend, so this is the least expensive I can think of. You can keep the royal blue ocean floor. You can use different shades of blue for you bedding (stick with solids and throw a little sandy brown in there) and get some shells, sand in some glass votive holders(dollar store) or go island and get some hibiscus and luau type stuff. A good cheap way to get photos is priniting online or getting a calendar and cutting the pictures to fit.

bedroom style/color/accessories?
My room has light gray carpet and the paint on the walls is a very dull boring white-gray. My dad won't let me paint the walls, period. And the carpet is gonna stay the same so I can't change those.
I really want to decorate my room and make it have some sort of style cuz right now its just dull and boring and I'm embarassed to have friends over cuz it's so childlike with stuffed animals on this shelf about a foot below the ceiling on two of the walls and on the walls are framed awards that I got in elementary school and I'm gonna be a senior in high school this year.
What colors and style of accessories would make it look nice and more mature? I've tried to find inspiration from pictures and HGTV but all those rooms are painted some nice color. I'm ok with pretty much anything that would make it look decent especially if I can buy stuff at local stores (JCP, Linens&Things, BedBath&Beyond, Target)
So what colors and styles? Links to room designs, decor, etc. would be ok too
I particularly like blue and teal and brown. Anything that is vibrant
The comforters I have are white/light green/lightpink, and white/red roses. And I have dark red sheets and orange/pink sheets. I really want a new comforter to set off a new room style but only if I can find a nice one
My furniture includes bedside table, tv on dresser, radio on corner table, and my bed with an ugly headboard/footboard, all furniture with different wood, and I have to use all of them. So any ways to improve those would be welcome as well

You have a perfect background to build absolutely anything you want. I might get a solid black bed spread and put a bright color for sheets and pillows (eye-popping blue or yellow). And add some other accessories like a dozen plain black picture frames (check the Dollar store) with black and white images in each one, laid out in a grid on one wall. Or, some colorful images in each one. A large rug - check out Home Depot, Target and Wal-Mart - with a large geometric pattern with your accent color. Get rid of the stuffed animals and put other items on the shelf up there. Books? CDs? Collectible bottles or cans or whatever? Leave space empty if you cannot fill it all up. Put a few things in groups in a couple spots on the shelves and leave the rest EMPTY until you find something you want up there. Prop up some more framed images. Stack up your magazines.
Ok, now picture that room - instead of bright blue, use a pale powder blue or light orange.
