I suggest picking to different shades of a color.
Like tangerine, pink, or turquoise.
Then get a roxy bedspread or something.
Good luck!

Robert asks…

common room decoration help?

Ive been put in charge of a committee to decorate our common room ... i really need a paint design for both boys and girls to make our drab room a place where we can study and relax
ive put in for a grant in B&Q and they should give us supplies for free

there are 4 walls one with a white board and opposite that one a big window with electric shutters
then 2 plain walls with a notice board.

please help come up with a design for the walls as i know i cant please everyone but i would like to make our common room alot better than our off-white graffiti walls we have at the moment
thank you xx

additional details :- we are a catholic school so no offensive designs x

Hi Katzilla,
A light green such as Sage Green would be my suggestion. Green is a color that implies focus, which you need for studying. It also is a relaxing color as well. It is also neutral, given the fact that the area will be used for both boys and girls.
Design: consider painting wide Striped horizontal borders around the room on all 4 walls. Starting at approx 16 inches down from the ceiling. Choosing complimentary colors to green is easy blues, tans and off white ( minimal amount of white ) Currently wide stripes are very popular in design. You may want to reference www.hgtv.com and look at the bedroom designs just to get an idea of how to do this in your Common Room. Painting the additional colors for stripes is a very cost effective method of decorating! ( budget minded :o)
You could choose one wall for inspiration words : Believe, Blessings, Peace, Faith and so on.
Good Luck and Happy re-Decorating!

A 13 year old girls room?

At last I have finally finished my designs! :)
I'd love to hear what you think of them :)

All walls are white.
On one wall, there will be lots of polka dots in these colours:
-Aqua blue
-Hot pink
-Sun yellow
-Bright orange

There will be a white single bed with lots of cute fluffy heart cushions.
Chunky white photo frames of me and friends.
A Henry Clarke print of a Vogue model: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3280/2388876834_81b9b34021_o.jpg
Dark oak floorboards
A white stand alone mirror
This mirror aswell: http://cache.wists.com/thumbnails/8/5f/85fbadec5fab661a499da7f54f95e634-orig
A white dressing table from Ikea
A fluffy heart rug

-As the house is a 400 year old cottage, it has beams by the window and one sloped wall, so I will make the beams look edgy and stand out by painting them in a bold black and use bright orange curtains.

Draped over the bed, I will have lots of fairy lights to make it look cute.

Also, a white or glass side table and a hot pink lamp.

As a celing light, I will go for something aqua blue to match one of the polka dots :)

and at the head of the single bed, the letters MJB (my initials)

and a cute beanbag chair in the corner with magazine holders etc :)

Sound good to you?

Hi,

I realise you are 13... And that you would like a lot of color... Here are some suggestions... See if you like em....

1.since white is your prime color make 3 walls white... And the other one... Make it a bright color.... Maybe bright pink.... And Instead of Polka dots you can have an string of concentric circles... I have a picture of a similar wall if you want to see it....
2.Instead of all heart cushions you can mix it in different shape and different color...
3.Instead of white frames... Make it bold colors...
4.And Have you thought about adding some candles for the dressing table….

I personally don’t like curvy mirrors in a room.. I think it’s more suitable in a hallway....

Just some suggestions…… See if you like em,…..

Have fun Decorating!!!!!

HELP? how should I re-design my room?

I'm a 13 year old girl an my parents recently let me decide how I wanted to re do my lame little girls room into a teen room. We painted it blue and green (I already don't really care for the colors but they're ok) and got new furniture so now I just néed the little details. Like WHAT BEDSPREAD should I buy that would sorta match the colors I have??? And also, wHAT THE HECK ShOULD I PUT ON MY WALLS that is teenager-ish?? Plz help I Am so bad at decorating

admin answers:

Polka dots or stripes for the bedspread would be cute. Idk what shades of blue & green you have but you should be able to find something that matches in polka dots or especially stripes. It would be even better if you got a striped one that had other colors in it you could pull those out for accessories, like pink, purple, orange, whatever. That might help you feel better about the blue/green. If you don't have curtains yet you can get sheers in bright colors at walmart or target for pretty cheap.

As far as walls and accessories, ask yourself what do you like, what are you into? You can buy inexpensive posters of pretty much anything and frame them. If you like nature, you can find bright colored flower posters or pictures. Do you like sports? Ballet? Music? Movies? Animals? You want your room to represent you.

You could also find a big pretty framed mirror for the wall. Or see if your parents would let you paint a section of chalkboard paint on one wall and have your friends write messages to you when they come over. If you have alot of pics of you and your friends or family you could get some inexpensive matching frames and do a collage of framed pics on one wall.
