Mary asks…

Teen girl room DIY decorating?

So, I am 13. My family just redid my room. The colors are mainly light blue and brown. A little bit of lime green in some areas. I need DIY projects that will customize my room to make it.. mine! So anything from murals, to hangups or anything would help. Please & thank you. :)

There are a million things you can do. You can make cd holders with figures on them (like a guitar player or a dancing person), you can do candle holders from fruit, you can make bookcase stoppers with figures or different shapes on, you can make your pen/pencil holder special by either painting or sticking stuff to it, just find out the things you like and turn them into objects.
The cd holders are really easy to make from scratch or you can just go out an buy one and just make the figures (also easy to make) Just print the shapes you want and then find some really hard material and draw the shape on it and cut it. You might wanna buy some acrylic paints to give them some colors or just paint them white or black or whatever you want.
Same thing with the bookcase stoppers only thing you have to do is bend the material in half so you an stick it under the books.
About those candles.. You can get a big bowl and fill it with water and get some lemons and cut them in half and carve out the middle. Make sure you get lemons that are big enough to hold those small round candles that burn a few hours and that have a metal coating on the outside. You can put the candle inside the lemon and then put it in the bowl. This way they float and as the candle heats up the lemon starts to smell pretty, and since they;re in water you're safe.
The pen/pencil holders are again easy to make. You just need acrylic paint for example and you can just paint whatever you like on it. You could also get some modeling clay and make shapes and patterns and glue it to the sides of the cup.
Another fun thing you can do( and it never gets old) you can get a balloon and fill it up with air and then get bits and pieces of strings and glue it on the balloon with a special glue until it's all covered in strings except the bottom of it where you inflated the balloon. And when it dries up you can deflate the balloon and the strings will keep the shape of the balloon. I'm sorry i don't know the name of the glue.. Tried to find a dictionary word for it but no luck. It's like this white paste that becomes without color when it dries up.

Anyway there's a billion things you can do depending on what you want to do with your room.
Anyway enough chit chat try googling for more ideas, there are a lot of sites with step by step guides. Try this one for starters http://www.diynetwork.com/

Find something that you really enjoy... Be it a piece of furniture a color a sport or activity and pull inspiration from there... If you see a blanket for your bed that you absolutely love then its just as simple as taking a color from there and making it into your room... Maybe you want to do soemthing with sports... Think of what is involved with that sport and take it from there... Just what ever you choose make it your own... Take a picture of something you love and pick paint colors from there... Dont be scared of trying new and different things... Visit a craft store near you for some ideas of things you like... Good luck with your choices

How should a 14 year old girl decorate her room?

I really want to re-do my room but i have no idea what to put it in and stuff. Im a 14 year old girl and i was thinking maybe hot pink walls and a zebra bread spread. What do you think about it?

What you have so far sounds like a good idea. How about a beanbag chair? Cool lighting?

If you are looking for new furniture look for more modern styles.
For example, this bed:

Or this one:

For furniture, the most modern colors are black or white.

Also, you can get lamps like this to go with your zebra idea:

These lights are cool too:

Or this:
