Painting A Girls Room

Photobucket

Robert asks…

If you painted a room in a rental house do you have to return it back to the same color when you move out?

My sister rented a house for 5 years and painted a little girls room. Now she is moving out and the landlord is making her paint the room over is that something she as to do or not? The color is light purlpe.

admin answers:

Likely your contract says that it has to be returned as it was leased, so yes.

But here is the question I have, after a five year lease the landlord is probably already required to paint all the rooms just for basic wear and tear, why is he making such a big issue of this?

Ask him straight out, are you telling me you are going to rent this out without painting these walls for general wear and tear?

The only reason that room will not show as much wear and tear as any other would be because you painted it more recently than the others had been.

You could just move out without painting. If you don't paint then at worse the landlord will deduct painting from your deposit. You can argue in court that this is improperly withheld. If he paints other walls then he will have a tough time justifying not covering the painting of this particular room as wear and tear as well. If he pays someone to paint that one room then I have no doubt he will have other rooms painted at the same time.

Nancy asks…

What are some ways to decorate a room for girls 10-12?

I want to decorate a girls room 10-12 room really fancy and cool. what are some cool things to do besides painting and things but more like accents for it.

Is this for someone close to you? I think the best think to do is to ask the girl what she's interested in; for example, I was really into Japanese culture at that age, so anything from paper fans on the wall, to geisha figures to Japanese print bedding would have been awesome. That way, it's also more personal!

If you're looking for more generic things, Ikea has wonderful colored vases, plants, and wall hanging that are super affordable and look designer. Here's an example: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80175133/

They also have more "grown up" ascents she might enjoy, like these super cute perfume bottles:

If you have an Ikea near you go check it out!

Steven asks…

how do i make a teenage girls room modern?

How can i make my room more upbeat without doing somthing major like painting thanks
Its not really pink just white that looks pink in some angles

There are some great temporary wall decals that can transform the room. They do not damage the walls and can be moved around depending on your mood. Many companies make them, but I attached the link of one so you can see the designs and colors available.
Bedding can always liven up a room. A new comforter will change the whole feel of the room. You can also just buy a few duvet covers so you can swap them out as you get tired of them. Or go with a neutral color for the bedspread and change out the pillowcases and throw pillows. If you are on a tight budget, buy plain throw pillows and sew different cases for them yourself. If the walls are slightly pink, you can have accents of lime green and hot pink on the bed for a fun and modern look.
You can also change the curtains quite easily and inexpensively. It's a great option to make an impact on the wall without having to paint.
Good luck and have fun!

Laura asks…

Which artist did the surreal painting with 2 semi-invisible girls in a front room with sea coming in the door?

It looks like a Salvador Dali painting but i cant seem to find it anywhere! One of the girls is looking out one side of the room which is misty and rocky and there is also a large statue head with seaweed in its hair in the room

admin answers:

You are probably talking about Dominque Appia's "Entre les Trous de la Memoire."

Why anyone thinks his style is similar to Salvador Dali's is beyond me, because beyond the surrealist approach to subject, Appia's and Dali's styles are not at all close; but see the site below:
