Sandra asks…

Help! Need Decorating ideas!?

Okay, at our church we recently got a new preacher who wants the youth to be REALLY good. He has given us a room in the basement of our church to decorate and basically do whatever we want. Right now the youth is made up of about 8 girls ages 11-15 and two boys ages 12 and 16 who aren't really involved. So basically its a girls group. We meet today and we will be talking about what we might do with it. I need some ideas! We like bright colors, polka dots, stripes and lots of other things. Just need some tips/ideas that teenage girls would like! (: Thanks!

So its a basement? Dont make it feel like a basement. Bright colors is a great idea! Maybe pickiung out one wall that you want to be your accent wall and give it stripes or polka dots. For a group of teenage girls, you will want to have an area where you can just chill with your friends also maybe add an area where pple can have quiet time or whatever you guys do there. But keep on mind that maybe sometime down the road, guys MIGHT want to join too, so make sure to make it enjoyable for them too:) a ping pong table or a fuse ball table would be a neat something to have in there too.
Hope this helps!!:)

Teenage bedroom ideas?

I'm a 13 year old girl, & I just changed rooms. I'm re-decorating, but I have NO idea what to do. Do you have any ideas? My old room was in the basement, and it was dark blue, so it was always dark and not very happy. I want something bright, fun, and uplifting. Also, not too childish. Thanks! (:

You could try an offset green like mint if you want fun and restful at the same time...

Green is the most common "favorite color". It is cool, restful, and easy on the eyes. Hospitals and detention facilities use green liberally to help residents relax. Green works well with most colors; in fact, depending on the exact shade, it can almost be considered a neutral. Its today's most popular decorating choice. Try hunter green in the office, soft, restful sage in the bedroom or bath, and neutral khaki in the living room.

I need decorating ideas...

I'm a teenage girl with a room that looks pretty boring... Which is totally not my style. I like cool, funky, retro stuff with neon lights and colors and... u get the point. But I have no clue how to make my room look like... MY room! My parents won't let me paint the walls or anything like that, so cheap decorating ideas would help a BUNCH and also, if u know of any websites that sell decorative cool stuff, those would help a lot too... Thanks so much!

If you can hang things on your wall to create an illusion that they have been painted, consider these techniques:

buy cheap flat sheets (Walmart for about $3 each) to hang tightly. If you can't find the exact color you want, use Ritt dye (from walmart or grocery store) to dye them. Hanging on one wall will create a great accent wall.

Paint poster board and cut into retro shapes of your choice and hang all over the wall.

Change your light bulb to a colored one(s) which will cast the color of the light onto your walls.

As for decor, I love the free stuff or next to free stuff you can find on craigslist. Look at the free stuff with a creative eye and imagine what it might look like after a can of spray paint or a few creative improvements.

My 16 yr. Old son recently brought home a metal lamp that extends over a couch with 5 lights coming out of it. He sanded the shiny brass finish down and will next be painting it a metallic blue to match our retro, sculpted carpet in our basement. It was found by him with a "for free" sign attatched while walking our dogs one evening.

Also, don't be afraid to advertise a retro wish list on craigslist.com either. I'd make sure it is ok with my parents first and maybe get their input on how to word it so that no one could tell that you weren't an adult etc.
